A Meaningful Series of Donations from Professors for Sookmyung Women's University Continues

As 2025 begins, professors of Sookmyung Women’s University have continued to contribute to the university’s development fund. To honor their noble intentions, the university held a naming ceremony for classrooms dedicated to the donors. Professor Emeritus Lee Uk-han of the Department of Law Professor Emeritus Lee Uk-han of the Department of Law, who has shared his knowledge with students over the past 30 years through renowned lectures such as "Love and the Constitution," donated KRW 100 million to establish the “Lee Uk-han Lecture Room” at Room 308 of the Jinri Building. Professor Emeritus Lee, who retired last year, also led the judicial exam preparation program “Sujeongdang,” producing many successful candidates. His liberal arts course "Love and the Constitution" became one of the university's most iconic lectures, with over 10,000 students having taken the course over the years. He remarked, "After retiring, I realized just how much strength and comfort I received from the students and how greatly I benefited from Sookmyung. I decided to donate to give back the blessings I've received from the university." Professor Emerita Park Young-hye of French Language and Culture The “Park Young-hye Lecture Room,” named after Professor Emerita Park Young-hye of French Language and Culture, a pioneer in women's education in Korea, has been established in Room 420 of the Soonheon Building. In January 2025, she made an additional donation of approximately KRW 65 million, bringing her total contributions to KRW 100 million. Appointed in 1972, Professor Emerita Park played a key role in establishing the first women’s studies course at the university and dedicated her life to advancing women’s research. Her efforts earned her the French Order of Academic Palms in 2008. She said, “The thought of students learning in the Park Young-hye Lecture Room already feels like a heavy responsibility on my shoulders. I hope that Sookmyung Women’s University will continue to achieve even greater success and development.” Professor Yoo Jin-soo of the Department of Economics The “Yoo Jin-soo Lecture Room,” named after Professor Yoo Jin-soo of the Department of Economics, has been established in Room 316 of the Myungshin Building. Over the past 30 years, Professor Yoo has quietly demonstrated his love for the university. Since 1995, Professor Yoo has practiced “quiet giving,” with his consistent donations totaling KRW 155 million in development funds for his students, he earned the nickname “Daddy Long Legs.” Recognized for his contributions to bridging academia and practice, he was awarded the Order of Service Merit (Red Stripes) in 2019 and a commendation from the Minister of Education in 2024. He is also a bestselling author, known for his book The Eldest Son of a Poor Family: Speaking on Economic Justice in Korea, which explores the moral and economic responsibilities of major conglomerates. Reflecting on his career, Professor Yoo said, “The 30 years I spent at Sookmyung Women's University, which I had so longed to join, were incredibly happy, and I shared so many wonderful moments with my students.” Professor Suh Yong-gu of the Division of Business Administration The “Suh Yong-gu Lecture Room,” named after Professor Suh Yong-gu, a leading expert in brand marketing of the Division of Business Administration, has been established in Room 320 of the Soonheon Building, thanks to his donation of KRW 100 million. Since joining the university in 2000, Professor Suh has published over 30 books and actively engaged in prolific academic work. Through numerous media interviews, he played a key role in enhancing the reputation of Sookmyung Women's University. Professor Suh stated, “Sookmyung Women’s University has been a foundation that gave me endless curiosity and opportunities to take on challenges, muck like an untamed horse from Jeju Island.”
